Giza Pyramids, Sphinx and Valley Temple Guided Tour

The Pyramid of Khufu, also known as the Great Pyramid of Giza, is the largest of the three pyramids in the Giza complex, located on the outskirts of Cairo, Egypt. It was built over 4,500 years ago and stands at a height of 146 meters. It was constructed using an estimated 2.3 million stone blocks and served as a tomb for the pharaoh Khufu. It is considered one of the greatest architectural achievements in human history.

The Khafre Pyramid, which is the second largest pyramid in Egypt, stands just 10 meters shorter than the Great Pyramid. It is notable for its well-preserved original cladding in the upper portion. Khafre constructed his pyramid next to his father's pyramid at the Giza complex. The pyramid complex has been better maintained compared to others and features an innovative construction technique using large limestone blocks covered with thin facing slabs. This entire complex served as a temple dedicated to the god-pharaoh after his death and resurrection.

At 240 feet (73 meters) in length and 66 feet (20 meters) in height, The Great Sphinx is one of the world's largest sculptures. Its body resembles that of a lion, while the head is human and adorned with a royal headdress. The statue was hewn from a single block of limestone and is believed to have been painted, as evidenced by pigment residues found on it. It is estimated that around 100 workers would have taken approximately three years to complete the statue, using stone hammers and copper chisels.

The third major pyramid at Giza belongs to Pyramid of Menkaure and is the smallest of the three, standing at a height of 65 meters (213 feet). Despite its size, the complex is home to some of the most magnificent sculptures from ancient Egypt. Menkaure's pyramid chambers are more intricate than those of Khafre and include a chamber with decorative panels and another with six large niches. The burial chamber is lined with enormous granite blocks, while the black stone sarcophagus, also featuring niched panels, was found within it.

The Valley Temple is an ancient temple located in Giza, near Cairo, Egypt. It was built during the reign of Pharaoh Khafre, around 2500 BCE. The temple was part of the complex that included Khafre's pyramid and the Great Sphinx. The Valley Temple was used for the purification and mummification of the pharaoh's body before it was placed in the pyramid. The temple is made of huge blocks of limestone, and features a central hall, numerous columns, and intricate carvings. It is considered one of the best-preserved ancient temples in Egypt.
